Below you will find procedures excerpted from Ford factory service manuals to enable or disable the AutoLock automatic door lock feature and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) lock confirmation horn chirp feature; as well as programming instructions for additional personal keycodes for keypad entry and for additional remote keyless entry transmitter keyfobs.
All of these systems are controlled by the Keyless Entry Module for -'94 models and the Driver's Door Module (DDM) for 1995+ models.

Note this is only applicable for the factory installed Keyless Entry / Remote Keyless Entry systems on 1992 and newer (unless otherwise noted) panther platform vehicles, including the Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Marauder and Town Car.

In addition, if you do not have the 5 button keypad on the driver's door you do not have a factory remote keyless entry system. This excludes 1998 and early production 1999 Town Cars and 2008+ Police/Fleet models with RKE option which do not include a keypad.

Autolock operation and enable / disable (Including horn chirp) programming procedure:

Autolock

All doors will automatically lock after all the following steps are completed:
  • The autolock feature is activated.
  • The driver seat is occupied.
  • All doors are completely closed.
  • The ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN position.
  • The shift control selector lever is moved into any forward or reverse gear.

After initial lock, all doors automatically relock when any door is opened and then closed except if driver seat is empty or ignition switch is OFF.

To activate the autolock feature:
  • Enter the five-digit permanent entry code into keyless entry keypad (14A626).
  • Press and hold the 7/8 button on the keyless entry keypad within five seconds of entering the code.
  • Press and then release the 3/4 button within five seconds of pressing and holding the 7/8 button.
  • Release the 7/8 button on keyless entry keypad within five seconds of releasing the 3/4 button.

To deactivate the autolock, repeat the above sequence.

For horn chirp enabling and disabling, repeat the above sequence but use 1/2 button in place of 3/4 button

Or, if you own a 2001 or newer vehicle you can use the alternate programming method: (required for '98- Town Car)

Autolock and Horn Chirp Programming

Note:
This procedure must be completed within 30 seconds.
  • Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  • Press the UNLOCK button three times.
  • Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  • Press the UNLOCK button three times.
  • Turn the ignition switch to RUN. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm entry into program mode.
  • Press the UNLOCK button once to toggle the autolock feature on or off, or twice to toggle the horn chirp function on or off. The horn will chirp to confirm toggling of the autolock feature.
  • Exit program mode by turning the ignition to OFF, START, or wait 7.5 seconds.

**Note, autolock and horn chirp preference are restored to default (ON) if battery is disconnected.

Keyless entry keypad operation and personal code programming (create your own 5 digit code)

Keyless Entry Keypad

CAUTION:
Do not use a key, pencil or any other hard object to press the keyless entry keypad buttons. These objects may damage the buttons.
  • To unlock the driver door enter the permanent factory code or enter the owner's alternate code.
  • To unlock the passenger door(s), press the 3/4 button within five seconds of unlocking the driver door or luggage compartment door.
  • To unlock the luggage compartment door (40110), press the 5/6 button within five seconds of unlocking driver or passenger door(s).
  • To turn on the courtesy lamps and light all illuminated components, lift either front door handle (22404) or press any button on the keyless entry keypad (14A626) (if equipped).
  • To lock all doors, press the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same time with all doors closed. (It is not necessary to enter the key code first.) This will turn off courtesy lamps.

To program an alternate keyless entry keypad code:
  • Enter the five digit permanent entry code into keyless entry keypad.
  • Within five seconds of pressing last button of permanent code, press the 1/2 button and enter any alternate five digit code.
  • After successful programming, the doors will signal by locking and then unlocking.

Erasing personal codes
To erase all of the personal entry codes programmed to a vehicle:
  • Enter the factory-set code.
  • Press and release 1/2 within 5 seconds of step 1.
  • Press and hold 1/2 for two seconds. All of the vehicle doors will lock and then unlock to confirm erasure.

Note, the permanent / factory code is NEVER erased or overwritten - it will continue to function with any number of personal codes enabled

The -'94 system allows one personal code in addition to the permanent code.
The '95+ system allows up to 4 personal codes set in addition to the permanent code.

1995-1997 Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter programming procedure:

To program a keyless entry remote transmitter, perform the following steps:
  • Enter the five digit permanent entry code into keyless entry keypad.
  • Within five seconds of pressing last button of permanent code, press the 1/2 button.
  • Press LOCK button on first keyless entry remote transmitter within five seconds of pressing the 1/2 button.
  • Press any button on second keyless entry remote transmitter within five seconds of pressing the first transmitter LOCK button.
  • After each successful transmitter reprogramming, the doors will signal by locking and unlocking.
  • If keyless entry keypad illumination goes out before all transmitters are reprogrammed into driver door module, the process must be repeated beginning with Step 1.
  • Up to four transmitters may be programmed to a vehicle in this manner.
  • To exit program mode, wait at least 20 seconds. NOTE: Failure to wait at least 20 seconds will cause programming failures.
1998-2005 Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter programming procedure:

Remote Transmitter Programming
NOTE: All remote transmitters are programmable and must be set at the same time.

NOTE: Programming (or reprogramming) of the remote transmitters can be accomplished using a diagnostic tool or by carrying out the following steps:
  1. Turn the key from OFF to RUN four times within three seconds, ending in RUN. The locks will then lock and unlock, confirming program mode has been entered.
  2. Press any button on each remote transmitter to be programmed. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
